Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Todvona Otesha Annette Williams, 25, was arrested early this morning and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening a man with a knife.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an apartment in Majestic Oaks at about midnight after a man called and said Williams was in his apartment and was trying to stab him; he said he was locked in his bathroom and that Williams was banging on the door.

When deputies arrived, they reportedly knocked on the door and made announcements, but there was no response. Due to the nature of the alleged crime, deputies opened the door to the apartment and reported that they heard loud music but no voices. They made “numerous” announcements from the doorway, but they reported that nobody answered. The call-taker reported that the victim was still on the phone and that Williams was still trying to get into the bathroom. Based on that information, deputies entered the apartment.

Deputies cleared the residence to the back bedroom, where they reportedly found Williams standing outside the closed bathroom door, holding an 8-inch kitchen knife. Deputies ordered her to drop the knife, and she reportedly turned toward them but did not drop the knife; they reportedly tased her and detained her.

Post Miranda, Williams reportedly said she only had the knife to scare the victim, but she didn’t want to hurt him.

Williams was last arrested in December for allegedly throwing a brick through a window of an apartment in Holly Heights and also breaking a different window of the same apartment with a baseball bat. Bail was set at $70,000, but her attorney filed a motion for bond reduction, promising that she would live at an address in Holly Heights. She was released on her own recognizance on January 5 with requirements for mental health and substance abuse treatment and prohibitions against consuming alcohol or drugs or possessing weapons or firearms.

Williams has three misdemeanor convictions (one violent). Judge Bo Bayer set bail at $20,000 on the new charge, and Judge William Davis revoked her bond on the previous case and ordered her held without bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
