Sheriff was in charge of taking the register money to the bank the morning after her evening shift at the variety store chain, or within 48 hours.

However, when Family Dollar loss prevention contacted police, the authorities found that the deposits had not been made for seven or eight days from when the manager collected the money, according to Reading Eagle.

Family Dollar officials noticed that deposits ranging from $1,790 to $2,813 were missing after conducting a thorough investigation.

Police looked at security camera footage which showed Sheriff counting the money she collected from the registers and placing it into a money bag with another employee close by.

She put the money bag in a safe but did not lock it up.

Reading Eagle noted that when Sheriff was alone, she would remove the money from the bag and put it into a plastic shopping bag before leaving the store.

Sheriff was charged with six counts each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property on August 18, 2021.

However, police were unable to locate the 57-year-old manager and put a warrant out for her arrest where her case was turned over to the sheriff’s office warrants division.

Sheriff eventually turned herself in after her photo was printed on the “Wanted in Berks” weekly feature by the Berks County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff was sentenced to 24 months with her bail set at $10,000, according to court documents obtained by The U.S. Sun.

Sheriff was also “excluded from any and all property owned and operated by all Family Dollar stores” in the Berks County area, per the documents.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Family Dollar and the Berks County Sheriff’s Office for comment.

The U.S. Sun previously reported on a similar story where a Walmart manager disappeared for four months after stealing over $100,000 from the store.

According to authorities, she was seen leaving the store with $135,988 in a shopping bag.

Four months after the crime, she handed herself into the police.

She was charged with theft and burglary and arrested on a $100,000 bond.

A month later, her bail was lowered to $50,000 and a judge issued a psychological evaluation on the woman.

She was also banned from any contact with Walmart.
