Ariyan Johnson, 19, Quasean Trotter, 20, and their daughter, Arielle Trotter, were killed in 2017 in a crime JSO called ‘horrendous.’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is featuring a December 2017 case as their “Cold Case Spotlight” this month.

Each month, JSO asks the public for help and brings an old case back into the public eye.

January’s case is the killing of Ariyan Johnson, 19, Quasean Trotter, 20, and their 10-month-old daughter Arielle Trotter. Police say this “horrendous” crime has still not been solved and detectives have run out of leads.

The family of three was found dead at a home in the 8900 block of India Avenue in the Arlington area on Dec. 12, 2017 when JSO and the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department were responding to a house fire.

The parents had clearly been shot before the fire started, police said. However, it appeared Arielle died slowly and painfully from smoke inhalation. Police believe the child was walking around towards her parents when she collapsed from the smoke.

“She suffered the most in this case,” Cold Case Unit Detective Travis Oliver Sr. said. “Whatever the suspect had going on with the adult victims had nothing to do with the 10-month-old child.”

Oliver said in his 20 years at JSO, this “ranks as some of the most, heinous, selfish cases I’ve ever investigated and been a part of.”
