Could Ben Carson become Donald Trump's VP?

(NewsNation) — After former President Donald Trump won the Iowa caucuses, speculation about a potential alliance between him and his campaign surrogate Dr. Ben Carson is growing.

Trump and Carson share a history of collaboration, with Carson serving in the Trump administration as the secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Unlike many other Cabinet secretaries, Carson retained his position throughout Trump’s presidency, and the two even ran against each other for president in 2016 without the typical rivalry seen among Trump’s opponents.

Despite being competitors, Carson and Trump displayed an unusual camaraderie during debates. The unique dynamic between the two figures has sparked speculation about Trump picking Carson as his vice president.

In an interview on NewsNation’s “On Balance,” Shermichael Singleton, former deputy chief of staff for Carson, highlighted Carson’s integrity, faith and experience as a pediatric neurosurgeon, emphasizing his positive image among Americans.

Notably, Carson has refrained from criticizing Trump, making him one of the few Republicans broadly accepted by both the base and swing voters.

With Biden facing challenges in garnering support from Black Americans, Singleton argued that Carson’s family values, work ethic and economic understanding could resonate more with Black men than Vice President Kamala Harris could.

“As an African American, he is someone who instills and includes pride about what is possible in this country when you work hard and study hard,” Singleton said.

Singleton explained that Trump trusts Carson, valuing his advice derived from deep consideration, prayer, thoughtfulness and faith. According to Singleton, Carson’s humility and selflessness set him apart from other individuals in Trump’s circle who might have personal agendas.
