Peacock has announced a new original documentary, Stormy, will make its way to the streaming platform next month and offer an in-depth look into the controversial pop culture figure Stormy Daniels and the political scandal that rocked the nation.

As the official synopsis explains, the Peacock Original documentary, produced and directed by Sarah Gibson, “delves into the life and times of Stormy Daniels, as she shares her story and account of events that have become part of American History.”

The adult film star made national headlines after it was revealed that she was paid hush money  by President Donald Trump’s attorney on the eve of the 2016 Presidential election. While she has asserted the payment was given to her to stay quiet about an alleged affair with the former president in 2006, Trump has denied the affair and  insisted, according to Reuters, that the payment was given to Daniels to stop “false and extortionist accusations.”

“From reporters to lawyers to politicians, many have attempted to define Stormy Daniels. Stormy tells the unvarnished truth about an unlikely American icon — this time, in her own words,” stated a press release announcing the new project.

Daniels will weigh in on the political scandal and share details about her life as a “mother, an artist, and an advocate working hard to reinvent herself, while still grappling with the bombshell that went off in her life five years earlier.”

An official teaser for the documentary, set to premiere March 18, showed a casually dressed Daniels sitting down on a couch as she got ready to address her controversial past.

“Ok, I’m ready,” she said.

Gibson, who was once nominated for an Emmy for her work as a producer in What Haunts Us, is also known for her documentary work in such projects as Orgasm Inc: The Story of One Taste, Britney vs Spears, I.O.U.S.A., LA 92 and The China Hustle

Emmy-nominated filmmaker Erin Lee Carr, who directed Britney vs Spears and Mommy Dead and Dearest, also served as a producer on the project along with Emelia Brown.

Carr told Oxygen in 2020 that she often finds herself drawn to unique stories about women.

“It’s important that women make films about women,” she said. “Just as we need to have directors of color make stories about people of color and there has been movement in that arena. This is something that I just feel very drawn to.”

The project’s executive producers are Judd Apatow of Apatow Productions and Sara Bernstein and Meredith Kaulfers of Imagine Documentaries.
