KANSAS CITY, Mo. — State and local leaders on both sides of the state line are reacting following a shooting that left one person dead and several others injured Wednesday near the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally at Union Station.

At the conclusion of the rally, there were shots fired west of Union Station near the garage and several people were struck, a KCPD spokesperson said.

Law enforcement sources have confirmed to FOX4 that one person has died and at least eight people were injured.

The White House announced it is closely monitoring this incident and federal law enforcement is on the scene supporting local law enforcement.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves are expected to address the media at 3:30 p.m.

Any witnesses to the shooting are asked to go to the southwest corner of Pershing and Main to speak with police. Anyone with information can also call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson

Missouri Governor Mike Parson said he and the First Lady were in attendance when shots were fired near Union Station. They are safe and secure.

“State law enforcement personnel are assisting local authorities in response efforts. As we wait to learn more, our hearts go out to the victims,” Parson said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Governor & First Lady Parson want to thank the Missouri Highway Patrol, KCPD, and their security officers for their quick and professional actions.”

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly posted: “At the end of the Chiefs rally, shots were fired near Union Station. I have been evacuated and am out of harm’s way. I encourage everyone to follow instructions and updates from KC police. Please stay safe.”

Kansas Second District Congressman Jake LaTurner

Rep. Jake LaTurner posted: “I’m praying for the victims of this horrific act of violence, and it’s my hope that the individuals responsible are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and brought to justice.”

“There is absolutely no place in our society for this kind of evil hatred.”

“I’m grateful for the KCPD officers and first responders who put their lives on the line to protect their fellow Americans.”

Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver said “My office is aware and monitoring the situation at Union Station. Law enforcement have encouraged people to leave the area immediately.”

“Please help share this information so that families that were separated can be reunited as soon as possible.”

“My heart is breaking watching the scenes from today’s parade. My team and I will continue to monitor the situation.”
