Shocking new doorbell surveillance footage has revealed the chilling final interactions between a mother and son – before he confessed to brutally stabbing her to death next to her newborn baby girl. 

Derek Rosa, 13, is initially seen calmly chatting with his mom, Irina Garcia, 39, in their living room as she cradled her baby, asking her in Spanish: ‘Why do you always tell me, ‘Don’t run?”

Hours later, Rosa was captured by the same doorbell camera after his mom’s slaying, calmly asking a 911 dispatcher: ‘I see officers, do I leave? Do I leave my house?’ 

Prosecutors have also presented images allegedly taken by Rosa immediately after he stabbed his mom over 40 times – which included a smiling selfie with what appeared to be blood on his hands. 

Separate footage previously played in court saw Rosa confess to the crime, where he told detectives: ‘I woke up, I grabbed one of the kitchen knives and I went to her room… I killed her.’ 

Despite the recording, Rosa has pleaded not guilty. His defense has sought to postpone his trial as they say they are awaiting evidence from the state attorney’s office, and he is set for a status hearing on April 17.

The new Ring doorbell footage emerged this month as Rosa’s case winds through the courts, with prosecutors insisting they are ready for trial, reports NBC Miami. 

Rosa is seen talking with his mom like nothing was wrong, as she sits in a chair with her baby. 

He is then seen returning to the apartment sometime later, where his mom was still sat in the seat and still alive. 

The footage then cuts to the moments after Garcia was stabbed to death in her bed, as her son spoke with a 911 dispatcher in a calm voice. 

He tells them his apartment number, 201, before continuing: ‘There’s officers. I see officers. Do I leave? Do I leave my house?’

‘No – do not leave, do not leave,’ the dispatcher responded in a harsh tone. ‘Stay right where you are in your apartment.’ 

Sirens and lights could be seen entering his apartment complex at the end of the clip, where officers would come to find Garcia stabbed to death dozens of times in her bed. 

Garcia, who had given birth just two weeks before, was killed while her baby lay sleeping next to her in her crib. The infant was unharmed.

At a previous hearing, prosecutors presented disturbing babycam footage taken from the room showing the 13-year-old looming over his mother’s bed, moments before they claim he murdered her. 

Derek was seen in an eerie black and white image, released in December 2023, with the timestamp 11pm – half an hour before he called 911 to report the murder. 

At 10:23pm, another haunting image from before the killing showed Garcia laying in bed, cradling her 14-day-old baby. 

After the killing, investigators say Rosa sent an online friend a selfie, sticking his tongue out and smiling while flashing a sign with his blood-spattered hands. 

Distressing images of a pink-handled knife covered with blood were also shared in court at a previous hearing, with what also appeared to be dried blood covering the blade. 

In audio of his call to 911, Derek said: ‘I have blood all over my hands.’

When asked if his mom is still breathing, he responds: ‘She’s dead miss… there’s blood all over the floor… I took pictures and told my friends about it, was that bad?’

The teen was arrested and taken into custody that night, and was also seen appearing to confess to the murder while under questioning from detectives.

‘I woke up, I grabbed one of the kitchen knives and I went to her room… I killed her,’ he said in the interview.

The teen was seen describing the size and color of the knife he allegedly used to commit the slaying 

When asked what kind of knife was used in the slaying, he casually said it was a large-sized kitchen knife with a purple handle, matching images of the murder weapon presented by prosecutors. 

The detective further questioned: ‘Your mom was sleeping?’ and Rosa confirmed: ‘Yeah, she was sleeping’.

The video also shows the teenager showing detectives his bloody hands and pointing to his neck when asked where he stabbed his mother.

When asked why he did it, Rosa then asked to go to the bathroom and for an attorney. No motive for the stabbing has been established. 

His family have expressed their shock at the alleged murder, saying Rosa was a ‘good kid’ and that ‘no one could imagine this would ever happen’.

Rosa has pleaded not guilty to the crime, however his attorneys are yet to argue any mental health issues in their defense. 

He was initially held in Miami-Dade’s juvenile detention center for two weeks after his arrest on October 12, until his charged were upgraded to first-degree murder by a grand jury and he was transferred to Metro West.

He is set to stand trial as an adult. 

Rosa’s attorney, Dayliset Rielo, released a brief statement when asked by NBC Miami about the new Ring doorbell videos. 

‘Today would have been Irina’s 40th birthday, my prayers are continuously with the family and I hope wherever Irina is in heaven she continues to give them strength and protection,’ the statement read.
