DANA Bash, chief political correspondent for CNN, was married to another network correspondent, John King. 

Bash has been working for CNN since she was in college and eventually produced special programming while covering the US Senate.

As the outlet shared on Thursday, April 27, 2023, CNN revealed that King was taking on a new assignment at the network and that Bash would become the program’s anchor.

King reportedly requested his role, which was centered on “voters in battleground states” amidst the 2024 presidential election.

As CNN Business reported, King said in a statement: “This is my ‘back to the future’ dream assignment. It is my tenth presidential cycle and, given the stakes, I felt it was time to get back to my roots reporting across the country.”

Bash also expressed her joy in the change, saying: “After nearly 30 years at CNN covering campaigns, Capitol Hill and the White House, I am excited to helm a program devoted to the politics that impact Americans’ lives.

“John built an extraordinary show that has attracted a loyal audience of political junkies, and I am looking forward to leading its next chapter.”

According to the outlet, Bash will continue her duties as co-anchor of CNN’s State of the Union show with Jake Tapper.

King began his career as a writer for The Associated Press and was later named chief political correspondent and headed the AP’s political coverage of the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections.

In May 2011, King was the CNN anchor who confirmed the death of Osama bin Laden to the American public. 

During the first 2020 presidential debate, King and other CNN correspondents labeled the face-off between Donald Trump and Joe Biden as “horrific.”

Bash said to Tapper: “You just took the words out of my mouth. You used some high-minded language, I’m just going to say it like it is. That was a s*** show.

“And, you know, we’re on cable. We can say that.

“Apologies for being, maybe a little bit crude, but that is really the phrase I’m getting from people on both sides on the aisle on text and it’s the only phrase I can think of to really describe it.”

In an October 19, 2021 episode of Inside Politics, King made an announcement about his health.

He said: “I’m going to share a secret I’ve never shared before: I am immunocompromised. I have multiple sclerosis. So I’m grateful you’re all vaccinated.

“I don’t like the government telling me what to do. I don’t like my boss telling me what to do. In this case, it’s important.”

When were John King and Dana Bash married? 

King and Bash married in May 2008.

He converted to Judaism prior to their wedding, as he was Roman Catholic and she is Jewish. 

The couple separated four years later in March 2012.

This was King’s second marriage. He was previously married to a woman named Jean Makie with whom he had two children named Noah and Hannah King. 

Bash and King had one child, son Jonah King, who was born in June 2011.
