ATP tournaments are top-tier tennis tournaments and thus, players and fans expect the facilities to be top-notch. While it is up to the expectations in most tournaments, the 2024 Chile Open in Santiago is certainly not on that list. The conditions of the courts at the ATP 250 event are pathetic as it seems from the video revealed on social media.

The video shows how the ball dies after it hits the court during a match at the Santiago Open. This footage comes days after British tennis ace Andy Murray advocated for hosting a few Masters in South America.

The conditions at the ATP 250 event only indicate that the region is not yet ready to host major tournaments. The video shared on X shows that the court is not well-settled as a puff of dust comes out after the ball hits the turf. Noticeable patches can also be seen in the video going viral.

After the ball does not bounce and dies on pitching, the player standing at the receiving end is left shocked. Check out the video below.

With the video going viral on social media, fans started criticizing the organizers for their poor work with the courts. A user sarcastically called it “beach tennis”. Meanwhile, others found it embarrassing.

Check out the fans’ reaction to the viral video showing dire court conditions at the Santiago Open.

It is worth mentioning that not only the ball but players are also struggling to move on the court in Santiago. Many players have taken a fall and remain prone to injuries.

The most recent player to fall was up-and-coming 17-year-old Joao Fonseca, who tumbled while chasing a ball on the baseline in his first-round clash against Thiago Augustin Tirante. The player caught his right foot in a particularly sticky patch of clay at the back of the court, which caused him to roll and lose the point.
