A BRITISH couple have been found dead on a beach in the Caribbean while on holiday.

The husband, 76 and his wife, 77, were staying on the Grenadine island of Carriacou before their shock death, say local media.

The two Brits were found on Paradise Beach in the village of L’Esterre with police suspecting they drowned, according to Loop News.

Unconfirmed reports say the man battled to survive against the water before his wife tried to save him.

The British man is suspected to have died in the water.

His wife was quickly taken to the Princess Royal Hospital nearby as their bodies were found on the beach.

She was pronounced dead by doctors as she arrived to be examined, say reports.

Local police have launched an investigation into the deaths and an autopsy is underway.

A statement by cops said the results will “tell us exactly what happened to them but for now, it’s an apparent drowning”, reported Loop News.

Recently, another couple were caught up on a Caribbean island in a horror situation and are feared dead.

Sailors Ralph Hendry and his wife Kathy Brandel are thought to have had their boat hijacked by three escaped prisoners as they were on their way to a restaurant on Grenada.

Suellen Desmarais, Ralph’s sister, told Fox 5 DC: “On Sunday, they went into the town around 3 o’clock because another boater saw them go into town.

“The other boater, when he went to bed, he noticed that they were there because you always look to see who is around you and in the morning, when the boater woke up, they were gone.”

The US couple went missing the same day as three fugitives, Ron Mitchell, 30, Trevon Robertson, 19, and Abita Stanislaus, 25, “escaped lawful custody”, the New York Post reported.

The Grenadian trio escaped the South St. George Police Station and headed to the marina, where they reportedly fled to another Caribbean island – Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Carriacou has a population of around 8,000 and is the second biggest island in Grenada.
