A TINY home village could soon be created that would offer housing to people in need at no cost so they can get support without worry.

Non-profit organization Faith and Fostering has plans to build 12 tiny homes in the backyard of a 5-acre property in Shreveport, Louisiana, to house young women and their children to keep them from being homeless.

Faith and Fostering started in 2020 and has been working to open more housing for the homeless since.

“Mission: Fostering homeless young adults through community and connections to live a life of hope and purpose,” Faith and Fostering said on its website

“The Northwest Louisiana community pulled together in support as sponsors and partners generously gave to Faith and Fostering to aid in the support of homeless young adults.”

It has received a few apartments/homes through donations and opens up the rooms to people in need.

The organization also receives donated furniture to give to people who live in the housing.

Now it specifically wants to build more homes in a backyard and open it up to young mothers aged 18-24 with up to two kids.

The housing would be aimed at young women who have aged out of fostering and need somewhere to go.

Faith and Fostering provides homes to people in its program at no cost.

“A third donated home with 5 acres for the F&F community development to serve an additional 14-16 young women,” Faith and Fostering said on its website.

Faith and Fostering also provide services that can help them get skills to eventually live independently.

Christi Robinson, Faith and Fostering executive director said that it is important to the organization to offer developmental services and surround their members with positivity.

“So, whenever they come into Faith and Fostering we surround them with people and with opportunities,” Robinson told ABC affiliate KTBS in Shreveport.

Robinson said the tiny homes are still dealing with renovations of the main home on the property and zoning for the tiny homes, but that they are in the beginning phase of being built.

She added the program is important because it helps keep people out of bad situations that may arise when survival is in mind.

“They don’t have to go out and do things that, you know, they’re doing within survival,” Robinson said.

“It just provides them the ability to serve their children in a safe place, safe housing, and opportunities for employment.”

People who have lived at Faith and Fostering’s housing said it brought them a sense of safety and changed their lives.

A woman named Haley shared her story of living with the organization on its website.

“This is the safest place I have ever been in my whole life. I don’t have to move every week, I don’t have to depend on a stranger that I met that day, and I get to shower EVERYDAY!,” Haley said.

“When I first entered Faith and Fostering, it was not easy, and it was different for me.

“There were rules set into place, but they kept me and Chance safe.”
