GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nicholas Alexander Holland, Jr., 30, was arrested yesterday and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.

At about 3:57 p.m. yesterday, a Gainesville Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop at the 374 mile marker of I-75 for a window tint violation, following too closely, and a lane change violation.

The officer reported that he smelled the odor of burnt marijuana as he approached the vehicle, and he said that Holland admitted that he had smoked illegal marijuana before the traffic stop.

A probable cause search of the vehicle reportedly produced a plastic baggie with 10 grams of marijuana and a 9mm handgun, both within reach of Holland.

Holland has a juvenile conviction from 2011, two adult felony convictions (none violent), and six adult misdemeanor convictions (none violent). He was arrested in September 2023 and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1000 feet of a park, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $8,000 bail shortly after his arrest; his pre-trial release conditions prohibit him from possessing alcohol or illegal drugs. Formal charges were filed in November, and the case is still working its way through the system. His bond was revoked today during a previously scheduled hearing, and new bail amounts totaling $60,000 were set by Judge Phillip Pena. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $41,000 on the new charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
