The Athletics are Sacramento-bound before their anticipated move to Las Vegas for 2028.

The baseball team from Oakland will be playing at Sutter Health Park in California’s state capital for the 2025-27 seasons, as announced by the team on Thursday. They also have the option to continue playing there in 2028. The news was reported by ESPN.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred expressed gratitude on behalf of all MLB to West Sacramento, Sutter Health Park, the Kings, and the greater Sacramento region for their enthusiasm in hosting the A’s temporarily while the team’s new permanent home is being built in Las Vegas. This was stated in a message shared by John Shea on Twitter.

Sutter Health Park is currently the home of the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The stadium has 10,624 seats, and with additional grass outfield seats, the capacity can be increased to 14,000. This information was provided by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The A’s will share the stadium with the River Cats with specifics on how that will work yet to be determined.

Dimensions of the venue are similar to that of the Oakland Coliseum, 330 feet to left field, 325 to right, and 403 feet to dead center.

The venue is just under one mile away from the Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings.

There had been rumblings of the A’s finding a different home in the interim, with The Post’s Mark W. Sanchez reporting in January that the team had been targeting a minor league baseball stadium in Utah holding just 7,500 people.

“We explored several locations for a temporary home, including the Oakland Coliseum,” A’s owner John Fisher said in a statement, according to CBS Sports.

“Even with the long-standing relationship and good intentions on all sides in the negotiations with Oakland, the conditions to achieve an agreement seemed out of reach. We understand the disappointment this news brings to our fans, as this season marks our final one in Oakland. Throughout this season, we will honor and celebrate our time in Oakland, and will share additional details soon.”

The most loyal A’s fans who live in Oakland will now have to travel a little more than an hour to see their team compete in games starting next year.

At last week’s home opener, A’s fans boycotted the game by staying in the parking lot rather than heading into the stadium.

The Oakland A’s are expected to be among the worst teams in baseball, starting with a 1-6 record after being swept by the Red Sox as they head into a three-game set with the Tigers beginning Friday.
