Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Elvert Joseph Perry III, 35, was arrested last night and charged with property damage over $1,000 and disorderly intoxication after allegedly threatening to fight “everyone out here” and “kill everyone” after a fight at Carver Gardens (1101 SE 15th St.). He also allegedly hit the hood of a patrol vehicle, causing about $1,500 in damage.

At about 11:30 p.m. Friday night, Gainesville Police Department Officers responded to Carver Gardens, where Perry had reportedly been in a physical fight with another man; Perry reportedly refused medical treatment and said he did not want to press charges against his opponent.

However, the arrest report notes that he yelled threats to fight “everyone out here” and “kill everyone” multiple times. Officers reportedly told him to return to his apartment, but he allegedly refused.

The report states that he became agitated and had to be physically restrained by bystanders; he allegedly used both arms and hands to “hammer strike” the hood of a patrol vehicle, causing a six-inch dent to the hood.

Perry reportedly said he was intoxicated and was very emotional because he had lost the fight.

Perry has been charged with felony property damage and disorderly intoxication. He has no local criminal history but was convicted of domestic battery in Broward County in 2016. Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $2,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
