In a statement released late on Sunday, the 74-year-old Texas Democrat, who is running for a 16th term, said that she is honored to be a leader in the struggle for justice and equality as a member of Congress and that she will face this more intimate battle with bravery and faith.

Jackson Lee stated that although it is anticipated that she will take periodic leave from Congress to seek medical care, her office will still be able to assist citizens.

She declared her dedication to collaborating with the leadership of Congress to be present for voting.
