Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Darius Trevion Campbell, 27, has been arrested on a warrant for hitting a co-worker in the head with a shovel in March.

On March 13, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a construction site in the Tioga Town Center area, where the victim said Campbell hit him with a shovel.

Witnesses reportedly said they’d heard arguing and turned to see Campbell and the victim on the ground, fighting. One witness reportedly said he saw the two men arguing and watched Campbell walk over with a shovel in his hands and hit the victim with the shovel. The victim reportedly said that he and Campbell are always arguing and that this was not the first time a shovel had been used in an incident.

The deputy reported that the victim had a bump on his forearm and a gash on his head; the victim was transported by ambulance to a hospital.

Campbell has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He has juvenile convictions between 2011 and 2014, seven adult felony convictions (one violent), and one adult misdemeanor conviction. He has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2018. Campbell was arrested in July for cutting another man with a knife, but the charges were later dropped. Campbell is being held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
