ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Destiny Imani Mayes, 23, was arrested yesterday and charged with battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly throwing a glass bottle at her boyfriend, missing him but breaking a window, and then throwing a frying pan that hit him in the head.
At about 10:25 a.m., an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the home shared by Mayes and the victim, where the victim reportedly said he had asked Mayes to leave the residence and that led to an argument. He said Mayes picked up an empty liquor bottle and threw it at him, breaking a window in their apartment.
The victim said he left the apartment at that point, and Mayes also went outside. Mayes allegedly picked up a small frying pan and threw it at the victim, hitting him in the head.
Mayes allegedly continued to follow the victim, hitting and scratching him.
Post Miranda, Mayes reportedly admitted to throwing the bottle and breaking the window. She also reportedly admitted to throwing the pan and hitting the victim in the head; she said the pan was small. She reportedly admitted to pulling the victim’s shirt off while fighting with him and said she “snapped.”
Mayes has no local adult criminal convictions but has a pending misdemeanor case for driving without a valid license. Judge Gloria Walker ordered her held without bail.
