Nicole Kidman finally reveals the truth behind viral Tom Cruise divorce celebration meme

Turns out Nicole Kidman’s viral meme seemingly celebrating her divorce from Tom Cruise is just a big little lie.

The actress revealed the truth behind the iconic 2001 image while speaking to British GQ for her Men of the Year cover story, published Monday.

“That’s not true,” the Oscar winner, 57, said of the widely-held belief that she is walking outside with her arms raised in relief after her divorce was finalized.

“That was not me,” she said, before clarifying, “That was from a film. That wasn’t real life. I know that image!”

The “Perfect Couple” alum, who wore a patterned top, green capris and sneakers in the throwback snap, did not specify which movie she was referring to.

The meme, notably, made headlines in September when Jenna Dewan posted it via Instagram Stories after she and ex-husband Channing Tatum settled their contentious divorce.

Kidman wed Cruise, 62, in 1990, with the couple adopting daughter Isabella, 31, and son Connor, 29, before separating in 2001.

The actor moved on with Katie Holmes, and the duo were married from 2006 to 2012.

Kidman, for her part, began dating Keith Urban in 2005.

She and the country singer, 57, tied the knot the following year, going on to welcome daughters Sunday, 16, and Faith, 13, in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

Kidman referenced their marriage in Monday’s interview, saying she “wake[s] up at 3 a.m. crying and gasping” over their union, among other things.

“Mortality. Connection. Life coming and hitting you. And loss of parents and raising children and marriage and all of the things that go into making you a fully sentient human,” she listed. “Life is, whew.”

In addition to the divorce meme, she also set the record straight on a viral clapping video taken at the 2017 Academy Awards in which she applauded with only her palms.

“I had a massive heavy borrowed ring on and it was really painful, and I was scared of wrecking the jewelry,” the Emmy winner said with a laugh. “There’s always something behind the actual images that go out there, right?”

Kidman also reacted to her frequently memed AMC ad about getting “back to the movies” post-pandemic, quipping that she doesn’t mind comments because she’ll “do anything for cinema.”
