Franklin Fire In Malibu: 2,800 Acres And Homes Burnt Destroyed. Franklin Fire in Malibu fanned by strong Santa Ana winds has prompted evacuations for some residents, electric power of thousands cut off, homes and acres of land destroyed due to the widespread fire.

Just before 11 p.m. on Monday, the Franklin Fire was reported in the vicinity of Malibu Canyon Road, which is located north of the Pacific Coast Highway. It began at roughly 10 acres and has since expanded to over 2,800 acres.

MALIBU, CA: Due to strong Santa Ana winds, firefighters are fighting a bush fire in Malibu, close to Pepperdine University, which is causing evacuations in the midst of dangerous fire conditions.

Due to visible flames from the campus, Pepperdine declared a shelter-in-place and canceled classes and finals for the day. By Monday evening, utilities had cut off power to tens of thousands of customers as they attempted to lessen the effects of the winds, whose powerful gusts have the potential to cause wildfires and damage electrical equipment.

According to Los Angeles County officials on Tuesday, the Franklin Fire expanded slightly Tuesday evening, damaging at least seven buildings as it tore over more than 2,800 acres of land in Malibu.

Investigators were unable to obtain a precise count because of the ongoing firefighting operations. However, according to Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone, he thinks at least seven buildings were destroyed and eight more were damaged based on the aerial photos.

Pepperdine University has ordered students who are still on the Malibu campus to take cover inside the Tyler Campus Center or Payson Library.

The university advises students to be ready to spend the night inside the campus center or library because the institution is still without electricity due to the Franklin Fire.

According to the school, pupils who choose to stay put will be given food, drink, and electricity.

Two emergency shelters have been opened by Red Cross LA to assist those who were forced to evacuate their homes as a result of the Franklin Fire.

The Pacific Palisades Rec. The Center previously served as a shelter for evacuees but now, the following areas will serve as shelter for impacted residents:

Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, located at 2828 4th St., Santa Monica, CA 90405. Small animals are welcome here.
Calabasas Community Center, located at 27040 Malibu Hills Rd., Calabasas, CA 91301.

Large animals are being sheltered at Pierce College. 6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills, CA 91371 is the address.

The Agoura Animal Care Center, located at 29525 Agoura Rd., Agoura Hills, CA 91301, accepts small animals.

Although it’s difficult to pinpoint the precise number of residences impacted by the Franklin Fire, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone indicated that at least seven buildings were burned and eight more were damaged.

Additionally, according to Marrone, the Franklin Fire was allocated more than 1,500 firefighters.
