AUGUSTA, Ga. () – A local family is remembering the life of the 21-year-old woman who died after she was attacked by two dogs.
According to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office, officers responded to the 3500 block of Ira Road in reference to a dog attack, and authorities state Samara Rogers, 21, of Augusta, was walking on Ira Road when she was attacked.
Family and friends are taking the time out to remember who she was.
“She had a smile that could light up a room. She’d come in and you knew she was here, you can hear her voice before you seen her, but when she came in she hung that smile,” says Delontae Harris, Samara’s brother.
More of Samara’s loved ones also had these words to say at her memorial service at the Salvation Army Kroc Center on Monday in remembrance of her:
“She is so sadly missed. We lover her. Family, we’re praying for you, and we know that God has a plan.”
“She always made sure she said, ‘I love y’all, I love y’all.’ She’d never forget to say she loved you.”
“She was such a sweet person. She would always say, ‘Yes, ma’am,’ and I think that I’m getting older, and I’m like, you don’t have to call me ma’am – just yes is fine.”
According to authorities, the owner of the dogs, Charles Blackville, is charged with involuntary manslaughter in Rogers’ death, and authorities say Blackville remains behind bars.
Now, family and friends of Samara say they have to live with the memory she leaves behind.
“I’ma miss her, but I’m gonna keep on for her,” says Harris. “That was my baby sister. I was there when she came through that door, and from the moment she came through that door, she was my baby forever. So, I’ma love her, and I’ma keep on uplifting her light, and I’m gonna make sure that her name never goes away, and Ima keep her spirit alive as long as I’m on this earth.”
