Greg Joseph will become Jets' fifth kicker of 2024 season

The Jets 2024 season continues to have elements that seem hard to believe.

One of those will be the team using its fifth kicker Sunday, the most the Jets have ever used in a season and the second-most in NFL history.

The Jets will have Greg Joseph kicking against the Dolphins after Greg Zuerlein landed back on injured reserve with a back injury.

Zuerlein had just returned from IR because of a knee injury before last week’s 40-14 loss in Buffalo.

Zuerlein did not kick in the game.

Punter Thomas Morstead handled kickoff duties and the Jets went for two after their two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

This continues a crazy season at kicker for the Jets.

Zuerlein struggled early in the year and made just 9-of-15 field goal attempts.

The Jets put him on IR in October.

Since then, Riley Patterson, Spencer Shrader and Anders Carlson have all kicked for the Jets.

Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich expressed surprise at the situation, stating that it was not something they had expected. When the roster was initially put together for the season, it was believed that Greg would be a key player. He was seen as a strong asset that the team had relied on for winning many games. Unfortunately, his health did not allow him to contribute as expected.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said the team is preparing to have Tyler “Snoop” Huntley at quarterback against the Jets.

Tua Tagovailoa (hip) was a limited participant in practice.

Ulbrich said safety Chuck Clark tore his pectoral muscle and that is what landed him on IR.

“It’s just crazy, here’s a guy that played almost a historic amount of plays consecutively in his time with Baltimore, and then to have two back to back injuries like this,” Ulbrich said, referencing the torn ACL that cost Clark his 2023 season. “I know he’s so frustrated and it couldn’t have happened to a better teammate and person on this team, so although I know how he’s going to approach it, and he’s going to be back better than ever.”

TE Tyler Conklin (calf), CB Sauce Gardner (hamstring), RT Morgan Moses (knee), RG Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle) and DT Quinnen Williams (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.
