A woman may have to wait two months until she can open her eye after picking up the wrong product led to a painful mistake.
The North Carolina woman accidentally picked up her nail glue instead of her eyedrops.
Before she realised her mistake she squirted the glue into her eye and sealed it shut.
A video recorded by the woman’s daughter, Ria Faggart, captured the unsettling scene of the mother lying in a hospital bed with her eyes covered in white substance, struggling to blink.
Social media users were stunned at what had unfolded — and it seems like it’s not an uncommon issue.
“Not me crying for your mama, update us that’s our mama now,” one social media user commented.
Another said: “I would cry for six hours straight They need to stop making nail glue look like eye drops.”
“I got nail glue in my eye and my mom had to wash it out and we went to the emergency room,” one added.
Upon viewing the footage, one person on social media shared their own experience, commenting, “I accidentally applied nail glue on my leg once, and the burning sensation was unbearable. I can’t even fathom the pain of getting it in your eyes.”
Another social media user highlighted the importance of redesigning the packaging of nail glue and eye drops to prevent such incidents, stating, “There should be distinct shapes for nail glue and eye drops containers to avoid confusing them, as they currently look very similar.”
The woman’s daughter, Ria, is using the video going viral to raise money for her mum, who also is a foster parent.
“Hi, if you are here, then you have seen the viral video of my mother. She has glued her eye shut,” she wrote on a GoFundMe for her mother.
“Doctors are saying it will take five to seven weeks before her eye opens, and then she will need to have it examined for damage. We appreciate all of the prayers and concern.
“She will be out of work and she is a foster mum, so she does not have disability.”
