WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Federal authorities are investigating a deadly New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans.

a driver drove into a crowd of people, killing 15 and wounding dozens more.

President Joe Biden called it an act of terror.

President Biden says investigators found an explosive device and the ISIS flag in the suspected killer’s truck.  It’s the deadliest ISIS inspired attack on U.S. soil in years.

The FBI says it’s investigating a terror attack on the iconic Bourbon Street in New Orleans where people gathered to ring in the new year.

Police say 42-year-old shamus-Din Jabbar, an Army veteran, drove a white pickup truck into a crowd killing 15 and wounding dozens more.

They say he got out and fired at the officers.

“He posted videos on social media indicating he was inspired by ISIS,” said Biden.

Now the FBI says agents are executing search warrants in New Orleans and other states.

Law enforcement in Houston shut off access to a road near one of the homes listed as a recent address of the suspected attacker.

Louisiana Senator John Kennedy says the FBI doesn’t think Jabbar acted alone.

“They’re in the process of trying to catch the other bad guys,” said Kennedy.

Also, Wednesday morning in Las Vegas police say a Tesla cybertruck exploded outside President-elect Donald Trump’s hotel killing the suspect inside.

President Joe Biden says authorities are looking into a possible connection with the New Orleans attack.

“Thus far, there’s nothing to report on at this time,” said Biden.

Police in cities around the world have created concrete barriers and tried to make public spaces safer against these attacks where the attacker uses a vehicle.

Less than two weeks ago an attacker drove through a crowd at a Christmas market in Germany.
