Socialite Jocelyn Wildenstein Reportedly Made A Reality Show Before Her Death

Infamous socialite Jocelyn Wildenstein died on December 31, and a new report suggests she finished filming a reality TV show prior to her death.

Much like President-Elect Donald Trump, Swiss-born Jocelyn was a prominent part of Manhattan’s glitterati in the late 1980s and 1990s, forever gracing the pages of New York City tabloids in the pre-internet era.

You could even argue that Jocelyn – whose notoriety stemmed from her unusual facial features and her purported penchant for plastic surgery, which she denied – was a meme before memes.

And if the height of her infamy occurred any later, it feels almost inevitable that Jocelyn would have been a Real Housewives Of New York City personality.

Even without the exposure of reality television, Jocelyn was in the news constantly, and her life and lifestyle are basically a template for the socialites of Bravo today — and like our Housewives faves, she married into immense wealth.

A 1998 Vanity Fair feature focused upon what was a major New York City news story of the day – Jocelyn’s divorce from Alec Wildenstein – and the messy, high-profile incident that preceded it.

Per the article, Jocelyn was in Kenya when she received a fax from Alec informing her that she shouldn’t return to Manhattan, because he was “entertaining” that week.

Jocelyn (née Jocelyne) returned anyway, and claims her husband was in bed with a “naked blonde,” leading to a prominent altercation:

“In the end, Alec left the town house – in handcuffs – after one of Jocelyne’s bodyguards called the police. ‘I will see you are out on the streets!’ Alec reportedly shouted as police led him away on charges of menacing.

“He spent 16 long hours in custody, some of it at Manhattan’s infamous Tombs, where cellmates had plenty to say about the jailbird wearing an Armani suit and a Legion d’Honneur lapel pin. ‘That day,’ Alec says of Jocelyne, ‘I broke off all feeling for her.’ It was also the day when the art world’s wealthiest, most secretive family became tabloid fodder.

“Alec and Jocelyne’s messy, very public divorce is seamy enough, with its charges of adultery, greed, and gunplay. Photographs of Jocelyne’s once delicate face, stretched freakishly tight by plastic surgery, have only heightened the scrutiny and ridicule. (New York’s Daily News dubbed her ‘The Bride of Wildenstein.’) Worse, the divorce has earned the wrath of family patriarch Daniel Wildenstein.”

Again, much like a Bravolebrity, Jocelyn walked away with a massive divorce settlement, reportedly totaling $2.5 billion before annual payments — and a stipulation in the divorce that none of the money be used to fund plastic surgery.

As recently as 2023, Jocelyn strongly denied ever having plastic surgery —as mentioned above, a claim she had long maintained.

In June 2023, Jocelyn described herself as “broke,” and said she was the subject of a Max documentary – which never aired – but news of her purported participation in a reality TV project emerged after her death.

On January 1, TMZ reported that Jocelyn had completed filming a reality TV show prior to her death.

TMZ specified that the project was unrelated to the earlier HBO/Max documentary, which “notably never saw the light of day.”

Of Jocelyn’s wrapped but unaired reality television show, the outlet said:

“We’re told the show centered around Jocelyn’s life as she moved from Miami to Los Angeles — which was a big shakeup given her reputation as a NYC socialite.

“Sources tell us the show documented Jocelyn and her fiancé, Lloyd, amid the latter’s attempt to bring his former fashion store back to LA. Though, Jocelyn never actually relocated to Hollywood — she was recently living in Miami.”

TMZ quoted sources familiar with the project, who described the late Jocelyn as “happy,” “healthy,” and “a joy to work with” as they filmed.

The status and ultimate fate of Jocelyn Wildenstein’s reality TV show remains unknown, but the outlet asserted that “the show is fully completed and there’s lots of footage to enjoy,” should any network choose to pick it up.
