LUBBOCK, Texas — On Saturday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m. Lubbock Police Department responded to a hit and run where one person was injured and brought to University Medical Center with injuries. While no arrests were made as of Tuesday, EverythingLubbock.com spoke with a family who said it was their relative who was hit. They’re looking for justice.

According to Christopher and Franklin Bottoms, 60-year-old Archie Bottoms was hit while he was attempting to cross the street in his wheelchair at 48th St. and Ave. L, which is just two blocks away from his home. According to the family, Archie was on his way to the store when the incident happened. He is now in the hospital with multiple injuries, but pieces of the wheelchair were still at the site of the hit and run Tuesday.

“We’ve got pieces of wheelchair, blood … somebody just left him here to die,” Christopher said.

Christopher and Franklin didn’t find out about the hit and run until the following day and they still don’t know who hit Archie.

“I’m upset and I’m mad. I just don’t see how someone can run somebody over in a wheelchair and drive off and leave them for dead. I just – I don’t understand that,” Franklin said.

The Bottoms family said they’re hoping that anyone who saw the incident, or knows any information about it, would call police as they seek justice for Archie.

“Someone’s got to have a conscience out there. Someone’s got to know something. We would like information to come forward if someone has it,” Franklin said.

Christopher said Archie currently has multiple broken bones, collapsed lungs and a bruised heart. He was in the wheelchair due to his age and a recent surgery, but now has further recovery to undergo.

“He’s got a long road to recovery ahead and we’re lucky he’s alive but to see him laying in that bed like that completely bandaged up, unconscious, it’s hard,” Christopher said.

The family is asking anyone who has information to come forward.

“He’s a father. He’s a grandfather. He’s a husband. He’s a human being. He didn’t deserve this,” Franklin said.
