LEWISTOWN, Ill. (WMBD) — An Ipava man was handing off his two daughters to his wife in Downtown Lewistown when he allegedly shot and killed a man on New Year’s Eve.

Nicholas Pratt, 33, was charged Thursday in Fulton County Circuit Court with charges of murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm and endangering the life or health of a child in connection with the shooting that occurred just before 7 p.m. in the 500 block of South Main Street.

Killed was Levi Blair, 39, of Canton who was shot in the head.

During an early afternoon hearing, Judge Thomas Ewing ordered Pratt, who faces up to life in prison if convicted of all charges, to be held in custody at the county jail pending the outcome of his case.

Ewing explained his ruling, saying Pratt represented a danger to both himself and to the community

Prosecutors told the judge and a packed courtroom that Pratt had met up with his wife, Annabelle, to hand off the two girls to her. The two have a pending divorce.

Blair was also present in her pick-up truck. When the wife got out of the truck, she left the driver’s side door open, according to prosecutors.

Blair was filming the exchange when, for an unknown reason, Pratt walked over and allegedly shot him. Pratt then fled the scene but was arrested a short time later based upon what was found on the cell phone, according to prosecutors.

Pratt told Ewing he planned to hire his own attorney. A hearing for Jan. 13 was set as review to give Pratt, a veteran of both the U.S. Marines and the Army, a chance to find one.

During the hearing, it was revealed that Pratt had PTSD but was not taking medication to help with that. It was also revealed that Annabelle had taken out two prior orders of protection this year but online court records indicate both were later dismissed or not active.
