MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — United States sprinter Fred Kerley was arrested in Miami Beach for alleged battery of a law enforcement official, NBC affiliate WTVJ reports.

Kerley, 29, was booked into jail on Friday on charges of battery, resisting an officer without violence, and disorderly conduct.

Officials told WTVJ that officers were investigating an incident late Thursday night when Kerley approached the scene and expressed concern for his vehicle, which was parked nearby.

Kerley reportedly became “increasingly aggressive” and refused to leave the area. Police then said Kerley took a “fighting stance” and refused to obey officers’ commands, leading police to use a stun gun on him to take him into custody.

Body camera footage reportedly shows Kerley struggling with multiple officers, including an officer hitting Kerley multiple times as he struggles.

A woman, believed to be Kerley’s girlfriend, can be heard screaming “stop” repeatedly.

“He’s an athlete, please do not mess with him,” the woman can be heard screaming.

Officers can be heard telling Kerley to stop resisting before an officer says, “I’m gonna Tase him.”

After being tased, Kerley falls to the ground and is handcuffed. After several more moments, Kerley can be heard telling officers “Y’all weak.”

Kerley was expected to appear in bond court Friday afternoon.

Kerley won bronze in the 100m race at the 2024 Paris Olympics and won silver in the event in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
