The Osmond family was a musical dynasty. From the 1960s through the 1980s, the clan reigned as pop star royalty as both a group and solo artists. However, with Wayne Osmond’s death on Jan. 2, 2025, how many members of the Osmonds are still alive?

Wayne Osmond died at the age of 73 after suffering a stroke

Wayne Osmond was the fourth oldest of the nine Osmond children. He “passed away peacefully” surrounded by his wife and five children, his daughter Amy Osmond Cook said Thursday in a Facebook statement. “His legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter have influenced the lives of many people around the world.”

Osmond’s younger brother, Donny Osmond, confirmed Thursday that he died from a stroke. “I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to visit him in the hospital before he passed,” Donny wrote on Instagram.

“Wayne brought so much light, laughter, and love to everyone who knew him, especially me. He was the ultimate optimist and was loved by everyone,” the entertainer added. “I’m sure I speak on behalf of every one of us siblings when I state that we were fortunate to have Wayne as a brother.”

Wayne Osmond married Kathlyn White in 1974 and they had five children, three daughters and two sons. He experienced medical problems for almost three decades, including surgery for a brain tumor in 1997, a stroke in 2012, and was treated for cancer.

Wayne was one of nine siblings. He leaves behind Tom, Virl, Alan, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie, and Jimmy. He was predeceased by his parents, Olive (2004) and George (2007).

Members of the Osmond family have been in the public eye for over 60 years

The Osmond Brothers’ career began in 1958 when Alan, Wayne, Merrill, and Jay began singing barbershop music to earn money to purchase hearing aids for their older brothers, Tom and Virl, and allow them to serve missions for the Church of Latter Day Saints.

As the brother’s musical talents became more refined, George Osmond took his four sons to audition for Lawrence Welk in California. The group was turned down, but in a twist of fate, were hired by Disneyland to perform in the park after the young boys joined an impromptu singalong with the park’s barbershop quartet.

While the Osmond Brothers were performing at Disneyland, Andy Williams’ father Jay saw them. He was so impressed he suggested Andy book them for his network television show. The Osmond Brothers were regulars on The Andy Williams Show from 1962 through 1969, introducing brothers Donny and Jimmy, and sister Marie, to the audience and the family musical group.

Donny would eventually become a solo artist while simultaneously performing with the Osmond Brothers. Later, he worked with Marie Osmond, and they would go on to become a wildly popular pair of entertainers with a television show, a slew of Billboard hits, and a long-running Las Vegas show.

Did the Osmonds also have big families of their own?

There are 55 children between all the Osmond siblings. The family started with nine members.

Donny Osmond has five children with his wife Debbie. Jay and Marie Osmond have eight children each and they both have been married twice.

Merrill Osmond and his wife Mary have six children. Wayne Osmond was a father to five children with his wife Kathlyn.

Alan Osmond married Suzanne in 1974 and they have eight sons. Jimmy Osmond and Michelle have four children.

Virl and his wife Chris are the parents of seven children. Tom married Lyn and they are parents to five before their 1989 divorce. He later married Carolyn and they have two children.

Donny Osmond continues to perform live as does Jay Osmond. Alan, Wayne, Jimmy, and Merrill all previously retired from performing. Marie has stepped back from the spotlight to focus on spending more time with her children and grandchildren.
