Chelsea Handler was reprimanded by Jane Fonda for behaving badly at party

Chelsea Handler revealed she once acted so poorly at a party that Jane Fonda reprimanded her.

In an interview with Parade published on Friday, the 49-year-old comedian mentioned that the incident had an impact on how she viewed her interactions with others.

“I went to the bathroom mirror at her house and looked at myself, and I was like, ‘Okay, you have two choices in how you’re going to handle this,’” she recalled.

“‘You could be defensive, and that just means she’s right. Or you can take it in and realize that she did not have to sit down and take the time to tell you this.’”

She continued, “She could have just avoided me for the rest of our lives and never hung out with me again and just been like, ‘Okay, Chelsea’s badly behaved, I don’t want anything to do with her.’”

“But she set an example for me that day. That was an act of love.”

Page Six reached out to the two-time Oscar-winner for comment on Handler’s story, but we have yet to receive a response.

The “Dear Chelsea” host spoke candidly about her past behaviors with Parade and explained why she’s grown to be more forgiving.

“I used to blow my gasket if something didn’t go my way. I’d be sitting on my phone firing off texts with that crazy face,” she admitted. “Now I understand how powerful my vibe is. If I’m in a crappy mood, everyone’s going to feel it.”

She added, “I know to remove myself from a situation if I’m not going to be my best.”

The former “Chelsea Lately” host even said her new mindset affects her love life.

“It’s not a big deal if something doesn’t work out. It’s not a big deal if the guy I’m dating breaks up with me; it really isn’t,” she noted. “I’m a tree now. I’m kind of unshakeable.”

Handler credited therapy with helping her change her attitude and reactive personality.

“That anger and that drive, that got me to be really successful,” she conceded. “But there comes a time in your life where whatever works for you stops working for you, and all of a sudden you have to take a look at what you haven’t examined, which is usually your inner life and what happened to you as a child.”

While Handler’s short fuse may have dimmed, her bold and blunt personality has not.

For instance, in January, she shaded her ex-boyfriend Jo Koy, following his ill-received 2024 Golden Globes monologue, while hosting the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.

She also put “horny old men” such as Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, Elon Musk and Robert De Niro on blast in 2023 for continuously reproducing.

“Don’t get me started on these four horny old men who have never met a broken condom they didn’t like,” she joked on Instagram.
