Fans haven’t seen the last of Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler even though Yellowstone came to an end after five seasons. Inside the new spinoff featuring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.

Who Is Involved in Beth and Rip’s ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff?

Taylor Sheridan, the creator and writer of the Yellowstone universe of shows will be the creative force behind the yet-unnamed series, although it will carry the name Yellowstone in the title. He’s got his hands full with the prequels 1883 and 1923, as well as his new series Landman. However, Taylor proved he can do it all, even acting in his shows.

Deadline reported in August 2024 that negotiations were underway with Kelly and Cole to star in the possible sixth season of Yellowstone, although the show is now going to be a spinoff of the flagship series. The outlet said the actors had been “negotiating new deals for months.”

Will Other ‘Yellowstone’ Characters Appear in Beth and Rip’s Spinoff?

Deadline reported on December 11, 2024, that characters from Yellowstone will appear in the new series, which will take place in the present day, reportedly in the aftermath of the events of the show’s series finale, which aired on December 15, 2024.

What Happened to Beth and Rip in the ‘Yellowstone’ Series Finale?

After Kayce Dutton sold the Yellowstone Ranch to the Broken Rock Tribe for the same price the Dutton family paid for it in 1883, Beth bought her own cattle ranch in Dillon, Montana, moving in with Rip and her adopted son, Carter, played by Finn Little.

That came after Beth killed her brother Jamie and had Rip get rid of the body

Rip offered Lloyd, played by Forrie J. Smith, a job on their new ranch, but he turned down the offer.

“I think this last batch of episodes leads us to the end of an era,” Christina Alexandra Voros, an executive producer on Yellowstone, told Variety ahead of the series finale episode. “It’s impossible to talk about it in any detail without tipping my hat towards things to come. But I think [co-creator and writer] Taylor [Sheridan] has managed to — and I’m really not sure how he’s done it, I think it’s sort of masterful — bring the ending to something that feels both shocking and fated at the same time. You need to get to the end of the story to fully understand everything that has come before.”

Why Did ‘Yellowstone’ Come to an End?

Star Kevin Costner was initially the main draw, bringing his movie star talent to the character of rancher and family patriarch John Dutton when the show began in 2018.

The Oscar winner took a significant time away to direct and star in Horizon: An American Saga parts 1 and 2, and he told fans in a June 20, 2024, Instagram post that he wasn’t going to be returning to Yellowstone.

“I just wanted to reach out and let you know that, after this long year-and-a-half of working on Horizon, and doing all the things that that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone — that beloved series that I love, that I know you love — I just realized that I am not going to be able to continue season 5-B, or into the future,” he explained.

Kevin’s character became the governor of Montana, but was believed to have committed suicide, as was shown in the first episode of season 5-B. It was later revealed that John was murdered, and his suicide was staged by a team of assassins hired by Market Equities heavy hitter Sarah Atwood. The second part of the season focused on the search for John’s killers, with Sarah ultimately meeting her own death at the hands of trained assassins.
