Blackburn still pushing for passage of Kids Online Safety Act

WASHINGTON (WJHL) — Friday was the first day of the new congressional session and Sen. Marsha Blackburn says her Kids Online Safety Act, or KOSA, will be one of her key priorities.

Blackburn, who was recently re-elected to a second term representing Tennessee, is hoping to pass the bill after it stalled in the House. It passed the Senate in a 91-3 vote earlier last year.

The senator says KOSA will give children and parents better tools to protect themselves from online harm.

“What we have heard is there need to be some guardrails in place in the virtual space, just like you have in the physical space,” Blackburn said. “And this would be a duty of care that is required from the social media companies.”

The bill has 72 co-sponsors in the Senate.
