10-year-old killed by stray bullet on New Year's Day in Miami

The Miami-Dade Police Department is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for tips leading to the arrests of those responsible for firing the bullets.

MIAMI — A 10-year-old girl was killed after a bullet fired in celebration of New Year’s Day fell on her in Miami.

In a Facebook post, officers with the Miami-Dade Police Department said Yuneliz Munguia was hit and killed by stray bullets around 12:04 a.m. in the area of Northwest 27 Avenue and Northwest 21 Street. 

Now, officers are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for tips leading to the arrest of the person or group responsible for the celebratory gunfire.

“This heartbreaking incident serves as a devastating reminder that what goes up must come down,” officers stated in the post. “Bullets fired into the air can take innocent lives.”
