A 22-year-old has been charged with murder two weeks after a 60-year-old died from a gunshot wound in Melbourne‘s north.

The Craigieburn man, 60, died in hospital after allegedly being shot in the stomach while outside a property in Gentles Avenue, Campbellfied about 10.10pm on December 20.

A 22-year-old Westmeadows man and a 20-year-old from Yarraville man later came to police attention after they presented in hospital with injuries.

The 20-year-old remains in hospital under police guard, while the 22-year-old was released and has now been charged.

He appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this evening.

At the time of the incident, police were investigating whether the man’s fatal shooting had links to organised crime.

Witnesses claimed to have heard bangs ring out and a car speeding away from the scene.

Officers found the man suffering from significant and life-threatening injuries on a nature strip. He was transported to hospital but died from his injuries.

9News understands the 60-year-old had arrived at the address to visit a friend when he was gunned down.
