State funeral for Carter: Sequence of events for Sunday

ATLANTA, Ga. () – The State Funeral for former President Jimmy Carter continues on Sunday.

The public is invited to pay their respects to the nation’s 39th president as he continues to lie in repose until 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, at the Carter Presidential Center. 

Groups from The Carter Center Board of Trustees and Friends, the Consuls General of Atlanta, and leaders from Emory University are scheduled to pay their respects to the former president throughout the day at the invitation of the Carter Family. Additionally, the military will maintain a guard of honor throughout public repose. 

Public parking is not available at the Carter Presidential Center due to security restrictions. However, MARTA is providing a direct, free shuttle to and from King Memorial to the Carter Presidential Center until 6 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Lines may be long, and all individuals are subject to a security search. Visitors are asked to allow for ample time for security procedures. Additionally, photography or electronic recording will not be allowed while in the Carter Presidential Center.
