ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Weeks after a man was shot and killed in St. Petersburg, police have taken the suspected gunman into custody.

New video footage obtained by the St. Petersburg Police Department reportedly showed the suspect, 46-year-old Charles Teal, chasing the victim with a gun in his hand on the morning of Dec. 18.

Investigators said the victim, 42-year-old Deon Bell, ran to the Kings Meat Market on 34th Street South for help after being shot multiple times.

An employee at the market told News Channel 8 Bell ran through the door, saying “I’ve been shot.” The employee then told Bell to hide behind the counter while they waited for police.

First responders took Bell to the Bayfront Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Police believe the shooting initially took place on 14th Avenue South, where they were able to obtain the video footage from. In an interview with investigators, Teal reportedly admitted that it was him in the video.

Witnesses interviewed throughout the investigation also identified Teal as the shooter, police said.

Teal was taken into custody on Friday, Jan. 3 and charged with second-degree murder, according to an arrest affidavit. He is being held without bond.
