Zendaya has opened up on her struggle with ‘self-criticism’ in a stunning shoot for Hollywood Reporter Leading Ladies issue.

The actress, 28, joined a host of A-listers in January’s edition on a round table to discuss their experiences within Hollywood.

As the most influential stars in Hollywood, Angelina Jolie, 49, Demi Moore, 63, Zendaya, Tilda Swinton, 64, Zoe Saldaña, 46, and Mikey Madison, 25, came together for the first time to discuss their lives onscreen and offscreen.

Opening up on her insecurities, Zendaya said she finds being on set the only place she feels ‘super free’ but struggles when promoting her movies due to the ‘judgement’ she may receive.

She said: ‘I’m a very self-conscious person. Everything I do, I’m very self-critical. And I find that being on a set is one of the few places that I don’t judge myself. I can just be super free. Because I’m like, “Wait, it’s not me.” So I don’t mind watching myself.

‘I don’t actually ever get weird about it until I go, “Oh, people are going to see this.” Once it’s time to promote something, I’m like, “Oh, now I’m self-conscious about the work that I just made.”

‘But up until this point, I was just in my little bubble of creative freedom. It’s not until you realise, “This won’t belong to just me forever,” that my head starts going.’

In a room full of award-winning actresses, it’s no surprise one A-lister was left completely starstruck by a fellow industry star.

British actress Tilda said she was once ‘too shy’ to go up to Angelina and introduce herself at a Hollywood bash.

She said: ‘She was there. We had Liza Minnelli over here and we had Sacha Baron Cohen over there and Angie was there.

‘And both Pedro [Almodóvar] and I were scorched with the glamour of it. We just couldn’t believe that we were present.’

Humble Angelina replied: ‘And I was probably — because I never go out — really alone and not sure anybody wanted to talk to me. And probably I would’ve been so happy had they said hello.’

Tilda added: ‘We’re all shy.’

While her career continues to flourish, her boyfriend, Tom Holland, recently revealed he plans to quit acting and become a stay-at-home-dad when he and Zendaya have children.

The Spider Man actor, 28, has been in a relationship with his co-star Zendaya since 2021 and the pair own a home together in London’s leafy Richmond.

Tom – who also shares two dogs with Zendaya – has now vowed that he will ‘disappear’ from the spotlight once he has a family of his own.

The English star revealed he will be content with just spending time with his kids and playing the occasional round of golf.

He told Men’s Health magazine: ‘When I have kids, you will not see me in movies anymore. Golf and dad – and I will just disappear off the face of the earth.’

Zendaya and Tom met on the set of Spider-man: Homecoming in 2017, but predominantly keep their relationship out of the public eye.

Tom previously revealed the reason he keeps his relationship with girlfriend Zendaya so private is because their bond is the ‘thing he keeps most sacred’.
