Douglas Terrell, 50, faces charges including robbery with a firearm, armed burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and more.

BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. — A man is facing charges after a traffic stop in Bradford County turned into an hourslong search involving multiple law enforcement agencies over the weekend.

Friday night, deputies attempted a traffic stop on County Road 18 in Brooker on a vehicle driven by Douglas Terrell, 50. Officials said the vehicle did not stop, prompting a short pursuit into a nearby cemetery.

Terrell left the vehicle and fled on foot before responding deputies could arrive, according to investigators.

Michelle Vasquez, Terrell’s girlfriend, was in the vehicle and gave deputies false information “attempting to deceive law enforcement and held her boyfriend evade arrest,” officials said.

At the time, officials say Terrell was in possession of a firearm and had an extensive criminal background, including 15 felony charges.

The investigation led authorities to a car shop on CR-18, where deputies found three men who said Terrell entered the shop with a firearm and held the occupants at gunpoint until they surrendered their cellphones.

Bradford County Sheriff’s Office and Union County Sheriff’s Office SWAT responded and attempted to make contact with Terrell who was believed to be barricaded inside.

However, after hours, SWAT entered the building and found it deserted. Investigators believe Terrell fled out the building’s back door.

Then, Saturday morning, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office got an anonymous tip about Terrell’s whereabouts, prompting another standoff. However, Terrell was able to evade capture and flee back to Bradford County, officials said.

Investigators tracked Terrell back to the car shop in Brooker where he was later captured.

He faces charges including armed robbery, armed burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and more.

Vasquez was arrested and charged with providing false information to law enforcement.

The Florida Highway Patrol, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Union County and RMC Correctional Institution K-9 teams assisted with the incident.
