A man accused of firing at police during a car chase was allegedly carrying two pistols, a rifle and a grenade after a botched New Year’s Eve home invasion.

Paea Tuiniua and Faez Finau, both 20, allegedly fled police in a stolen car after the attempted break-and-enter at an Edensor Park home in Sydney’s south-west.

Shots were allegedly fired into the bonnet of a police car during a later pursuit with the stolen car only stopping when road spikes were used.

Tuiniua allegedly fled into bushland and escaped detection until he was stopped by police in Brisbane airport.

Following his extradition to NSW overnight, the 20-year-old faced accusations today of possessing military-style weapons among a string of 13 charges.

Tuiniua allegedly had during and after the home invasion a grenade, AR15 semi-automatic rifle, 9mm Beretta M9 pistol and a Glock 19 Gen4 pistol.

Police also accuse him of committing the attempted home invasion to seriously injure the two occupants, a man and a woman, according to court documents seen by AAP.

In firing at police, the 20-year-old allegedly did so to resist arrest and endangered the safety of the public and the senior constable in the car that was hit, the court documents say.

No police were injured during the shooting but the pursuit was terminated over safety concerns.

Tuiniua’s case will next come before Campbelltown Local Court on March 5.

Finau, the alleged driver of the stolen vehicle, has been hit with nine charges, including aggravated break-and-enter and several driving and firearms offences.

He was formally refused bail on January 1 and his matter will return to Campbelltown Local Court on February 26.

NSW Police have released CCTV footage of a man exiting the Hyundai and trying to kick down the door of the Edensor Park home as well as images showing damage from the alleged shooting, with holes in the bonnet of a dog squad vehicle.
