An investigation is underway after a man’s body was found inside a unit in Melbourne’s south-east this morning.

A person discovered the body at a unit block on McCrae Street in Dandenong just before 9.40am.

They called emergency services, who arrived to find the man dead with serious injuries to his upper body.

The man has yet to be formally identified and police are now probing the circumstances that led to his death.

Homicide squad detectives will assess the scene.

A crime scene was established and the street was blocked off to traffic as police combed through the unit.

Neighbours told 9News they heard two loud shots about two hours before police arrived at the scene and screams from the unit block last night. 

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
