Joy Behar was a teacher before she was a co-host on The View, and she knows a thing or two about the country’s education system. On this morning’s episode of the show, Behar tore into Vivek Ramaswamy for criticizing America’s approach to teaching while accusing him of calling the country’s citizens “stupid” after his recent comments about the need for foreign tech workers.

Ramaswamy — who will soon co-chair the new Department of Government Efficiency with Elon Musk — stirred up a debate with his support of H-1B visas, which allow engineers and other workers from other countries to come join the tech industry in the U.S. His remarks on X (which included calls for “More math tutoring, fewer sleepovers” and accused the U.S. of fostering “a culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ”) sparked a debate of their own around The View‘s Hot Topics table.

Behar came out guns blazing, proclaiming, “This Vivek says Americans are too stupid. Does he know who he’s working for? Donald Trump, his professor at Penn says he was the dumbest student he ever had.

“The b’s on these guys,” she continued. “To go out there and say Americans are stupid when they cut education and want to get rid of the educational department, they don’t pay teachers enough — I was one, I was underpaid.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin then jumped in to say, “I don’t want to defend Vivek, but I don’t think he was saying Americans are stupid, he was saying we’re prioritizing the wrong things,” but Behar could be heard defiantly exclaiming, “Yes he is, yes he is.”

Behar then added, “And that’s why MAGA is mad. Because they say, ‘Oh, listen guys. We’re gonna get rid of immigrants and you’re all gonna have the jobs.’ And now they’re saying, ‘Never mind! You’re not smart enough to do the job.’”

Sunny Hostin agreed, grinning and pointing her finger at Behar as she told her, “Right, right!”
