Sangamon Co. Crime Stoppers looking for suspect in $4K Christmas burglary

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Police Department and Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers are looking for help in finding a suspect who stole $4,000 worth of tools and piping from a contractor on Christmas.

Officials said the crime happened in two phases on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at E.L. Pruitt, 3050 Reilly Drive. Officers were called to the business twice for a burglary in progress and both times, the suspect was gone. They left behind thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to the property and stole thousands of dollars’ worth of tools and copper piping.

The suspect was recorded on surveillance footage leaving the business on a bike with an attached trailer. They wore two different outfits during each burglary: dark overalls, a yellow shirt and a dark ski-mask; a blue coat, blue jeans and tan boots.

Anyone who has information about the crime, or who can identify the person responsible, is asked to submit their knowledge to Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted by calling 217-788-8427, visiting their website or using the P3 Tips app. If a tip leads to an arrest, Crime Stoppers will reward it with up to $2,500 in cash.
