One dead after shooting on Broad Street in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that one person has died after a shooting on Broad Street Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, deputies responded to the 700 Block of Broad Street in reference to gun shots fired at 3:23 p.m. on Jan. 8.

Deputies located one male victim who had been shot at least one time in the chest. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. The identity will be will be release once the next of kin has been notified. An autopsy has also been scheduled.

A possible suspect has been detained and investigators are on the scene for the homicide investigation.
