SAM Altman has made huge waves in the world of tech since becoming the CEO of OpenAI, the company responsible for ChatGPT .
The businessman grew up in St Louis, Missouri, and is the eldest of four siblings – but who is his sister Ann?
Who is Sam Altman’s sister Ann?
Ann Altman, also known as Annie, grew up with Sam in the Midwest.
She also has two other brother, Jack and Max.
Their mother Connie Gibstine was a dermatologist and their father Jerry Altman was a real estate broker.
Annie chose a different route to her siblings and has stayed clear of the public spotlight.
She graduated from Tufts University, Oregon, in 2015 with a degree in biopsychology.
According to her Instagram, she is an artist, entertainer and author.
In November 2024 she celebrated the launch of her HumAnnie Grief Poems in paperback.
She shared a post of the book with a ginger cat appearing to read the cover, which contains a dated photo of three children.
In the caption of the photo on social media, she wrote: “Please know these are very heavy poems. DM if you’d like the Google Doc for free.”
She added: “Dare you to make your own therapy art project,”
She has a website called All Humans Are Human, where she plugs her “interactive-stand-up-comedy-philosophy-show-with-music” called The HumAnnie.
According to her website: “The HumAnnie is about how no one ever fully ‘figures out’ how to human, how there’s 10 ‘C’ themes to the human experience, and how openly discussed these themes is part of maximizing resource equity and minimizing human suffering.”
Her 10 C themes include: consciousness, choice, change, compassion, communication, community, creation, change, curiosity and courage.
In December 2024 she had the list tattooed on her arm.
She shares clips of her singing on YouTube, including a parody of Plain White T’s song Hey There Delilah, that she titled “Hey Sad Scared Tech Bros”.
Ann also has a podcast called The Annie Altman Show, which was formerly known as True S***.
Who is Annie’s brother Sam Altman?
Sam Altman was born on April 22, 1985, in Chicago, Illinois.
He has been the CEO of OpenAI since May 2019 and co-founded the company with Elon Musk.
After growing up in St Louis, Missouri, the tech enthusiast went on to study computer science at Stanford University.
However, in 2005, he left college without earning his Bachelor’s degree to work on the mobile app, Loopt.
Altman came out to his parents when he was 16.
He told The New Yorker: “Growing up gay in the Midwest in the two-thousands was not the most awesome thing.
“And finding AOL chat rooms was transformative. Secrets are bad when you’re eleven or twelve.”
He was previously linked to Loopt co-founder, Nick Sivo, for nine years, before calling it quits in 2012.
Altman is also a lover of racing cars.
He told The New Yorker in a 2016 interview: “I have five, including two McLarens and an old Tesla. I like flying rented planes all over California.”
In May 2023, the 38-year-old stood before the Senate to urge lawmakers to regulate AI inventions including the chatbot tool, ChatGPT.
He was featured on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for venture capital at age 29, in 2015.
