Savannah Philharmonic Presents Symphonic Spirit

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Savannah Philharmonic presents “Symphonic Spirit,” Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. in the iconic Lucas Theatre for the Arts.

This inspiring evening, led by guest conductor, Jason Max Ferdinand, features Roderick George, tenor; Paul Thornock, chorus master; and the Savannah Philharmonic Chorus.

Ferdinand is a professor, conductor, composer and teaching mentor whose gifts are sought after by choirs and orchestras nationally and internationally.  Since 2022, he has served as the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Maryland.

He is the founding artistic director of the Jason Max Ferdinand Singers which, since its inception in 2021, has performed to sell-out audiences.  He recently conducted the Los Angeles Master Chorale at Walt Disney Hall.  He is a published author and composer with GIA Publications, featuring the book Teaching with Heart: Tools for Addressing Societal Challenges Through Music, and The Jason Max Ferdinand Choral Series.

Roderick George made his Lincoln Center debut in Handel’s Messiah. A distinguished concert artist, his repertoire spans from Bach’s Magnificat and Mozart’s Requiem, through Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Rossini’s Stabat Mater, to Orff’s Carmina Burana and contemporary works by composers such as Adolphus Hailstork.

George’s recent engagements include Faust et Hélène with New York Repertory Orchestra, Messiah with North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, Dvořák Stabat Mater with Highland Park Chorale, Ninth Symphony with Alabama Symphony, Mozart Requiem with Northwest Florida Symphony, and Hailstork’s I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes with Nashville Symphony. He has sung diverse leading tenor roles in operas such as Don Giovanni, Die Zauberflöte, L’elisir d’amore, Madama Butterfly, La Bohème, La Traviata, Romeo et Juliette, Lakmé, and Porgy and Bess. George’s professional ensemble affiliations include multiple tours across North America and Europe with the American Spiritual Ensemble and Jason Max Ferdinand Singers. Based in Birmingham, he is professor of music at the University of Montevallo.
