Jacksonville triathlon trailblazer featured in documentary

The 90 year old trailblazer is featured in a documentary airing during the St. Augustine Film Festival.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A triathlon trailblazer and active athlete, Dottie Dorion has been opening doors and inspiring others for half a century.  Prior to the documentary “Beyond Triathlon” being shown at the St. Augustine Film Festival, Dorion joined Good Morning Jacksonville for a conversation about her life, athletic drive and influence on younger female athletes.

Dorion’s efforts resulted in foundation of what Women’s Leagues in the sports world after experiencing personal adversity. The evolution of women’s sports in this documentary helps younger generations understand a sense of community and the value of giving back with “play it forward” efforts, including narrator Sika Henry, the first black female professional triathlete.

In Beyond Triathlon, filmmakers share a unique perspective of pioneering women who helped make the sport what it is today rejecting the social conventions of an era, these women broke a mold and formed everlasting friendships.

“Beyond Triathlon” will play at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
