EVANS, Ga. () – SC Bricks Lug held its annual CSRA Brick Con at the Columbia County Library — a free event for people to see Lego displays, Lego movies, vendors, and more.
A Lego artist at the CSRA Brick Con is bringing a bit of home into their art pieces and hopes to share the hobby with other creative minds.
Mark Lorah is a structural engineer from Augusta. Because he is an engineer, he fell in love with some buildings in the area, it inspired him to design some of his pieces– like the Magnolia Lane at the Augusta National, Sacred Heart, and the Imperial Theater– using Lego blocks.
“People love seeing things that they can relate to,” said Mark Lorah, Lego Enthusiast. “I’ve had people come over and say, ‘Oh, my son or daughter danced the Nutcracker there or was in whatever Augusta players show,’ and I actually had one lady in tears just saying that it brought back so many memories for her, and those are things that are really cool to see.”
Lorah not only focuses on the outside… but also the interior of the buildings to showcase their beauty. Many attendees loved looking at his pieces.
“I think the 3rd year we’ve come here, and my 8-year-old who’s over there he loves Legos. Maggie loves Legos too,” said Will Black, an attendee. “So, it’s just exciting to come here to see all, I mean crazy, things they build. I really enjoyed the Masters Magnolia Lane over there.”
The event is for anyone who loves Legos. Because of Helene, they had to postpone the event to this weekend and are glad some many people still came out to support.
“The families are happy. They’re glad to get out and to do something with the kids, and it’s been a huge entertainment. Huge fun for everyone,” said Michael Dominy, South Carolina Bricks. “It’s a very unique thing that, for this area, you don’t see a lot of.”
