(NEXSTAR) – Nearly 25,000 pounds of frozen taquitos sold at Aldi have been recalled after complaints that the food item contained pieces of metal, according to a notice published by U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

In one case, a consumer claims to have suffered a “dental injury” after biting into a taquito, the notice said.

The recall specifically concerns 20-ounce packages of Casa Mamita Chicken & Cheese Taquitos produced by Bestway Sandwiches, Inc., produced on July 3, 2024, and September 25, 2024. The FSIS did not say when the affected items were removed from sale at Aldi, but inspectors were “concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers,” per the notice, issued Saturday.

“The problem was discovered after the firm notified FSIS that it received a consumer complaint reporting that a piece of metal was found in the frozen chicken and cheese taquito product,” the FSIS wrote. “Another consumer reported to FSIS to have a dental injury from the product.”

The Casa Mamita taquitos were sold at select Aldi markets nationwide, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. (USDA FSIS)

Consumers can also identify the affected product via its best-by dates (July 3, 2025 and Sept. 25, 2025) and its establishment number (EST. P-40327), both of which are printed on the package.

FSIS said the Bestway Sandwiches shipped the taquito products to “select” Aldi stores nationwide. A representative for Aldi was not immediately available to confirm which stores had sold the recalled items, nor when they were removed from sale.

Aldi’s “product recalls” webpage does not currently list the taquitos among any currently recalled items.

Consumers, meanwhile, are advised to discard any affected taquito items in their freezers or return them to Aldi for a refund. Anyone with additional questions can call Bestway at (818) 361-1800 EXT.110.
