DENVER (KDVR) A Phoenix-based flight attendant was the victim of a deadly stabbing on Denver’s 16th Street Mall, according to her representative.

The Association of Professional Flight Attendants, a union representing American Airlines flight attendants, said Celinda Levno died while on a layover in Denver. Levno began her career in 1989 with America West, which merged with US Airways and then American Airlines in 2013, according to the airline.

The association described Levno as having a love for her horses, friends and family.

“We stand in support with Celinda’s family, friends, and our colleagues in Phoenix Inflight as they process this senseless tragedy,” said the Association of Professional Flight Attendants in a release.

The association said that crews still on a layover in Denver will be relocated to a hotel near the Denver International Airport, even though the stabbing did not occur at the layover hotel.

FOX31 reached out to American Airlines and received the following statement on Sunday:

“We are heartbroken and mourning the tragic loss of our colleague who was the victim of a senseless crime last night. Our thoughts and support are with her family, loved ones and colleagues, and we are doing all we can to assist law enforcement in its investigation.”

Stabbing suspect arrested after 4 separate instances

Denver police said a man was taken into custody late Sunday night in connection to four stabbings over the weekend. He was identified Monday as 24-year-old Elijah Caudill.

At about 5:17 p.m. on Saturday, Denver police responded to a stabbing at 16th Street and California Street. Levno was located and taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead on Sunday.

Two other men were stabbed on Saturday night and are expected to recover.

A fourth person was stabbed late Sunday night at 16th Street and Wynkoop Street, near Union Station. An adult man was taken to the hospital where he was also pronounced dead. This victim has not yet been identified.

Police do not believe Caudill and the victims had any connection to each other before the stabbing, and a motive is not clear.

On Monday, Denver police said Caudill is being held for investigations of:

  • First-degree murder of an at-risk elder
  • First-degree murder
  • Two counts of attempted first-degree murder

Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the stabbings can report it to the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7967 or online.
