CHICAGO A young coyote was stomped to death Saturday in Mt. Greenwood and neighbors are upset.

Officers responded to the 10600 block of South Sacramento Avenue at around 3:45 p.m. on the report of animal abuse.

Dave Kielbasa was relaxing in his recliner when he heard commotion outside of his home on Saturday afternoon.

He told affiliate WGN News he witnessed a group of young men “stomping” on a young coyote across the street from him.

The driver reportedly said “sorry” after being confronted by Kielbasa. Three others got into a dark-colored truck and drove off.

Kielbasa said he believes they are all juveniles.

He went across the street, took pictures of the dead coyote and called 911. He posted the incident to Mt. Greenwood Facebook groups to make his neighborhood aware and many were upset.

The coyote and his presumed family have been in the neighborhood for the last two months, Kielbasa said.

“They were super friendly and not bothering anyone,” he said. “This is some Jeffrey Dahmer type stuff. You start murdering animals, what’s next?”

In footage after the incident provided to WGN News, “I stomped it” can be heard when the volume is turned all the way up.

Kielbasa said that was recorded after another juvenile nearby asked what happened.

Officers removed the dead coyote from the scene and Area Two detectives opened up an investigation.

Coyotes are a protected species in Illinois.
