We’re now past the halfway point on this season of Love Is Blind: Germany. The reality TV show cast is still hoping to see whether they can make it all the way to the altar.
In this episode, we see the couples continuing to live together and get to know one another. On top of that, introductions to their family members begin, making things even more complicated.
Ilias Is Put In His Place
We pick up at the cast members’ cocktail party, where Alina is watching Hanni and Ilias chatting happily together. Jen tells Alina that she doesn’t have to be fine with the persisting connection between Hanni and Ilias, and that it’s a larger problem than regular jealousy.
Later, Alina tells Ilias that he must not “fully understand everything that’s at stake.” In keeping with his trend of always saying the wrong thing, Ilias says he’s just indulging his “curiosity” when talking to Hanni. Alina puts her foot down about the kind of treatment she thinks she deserves:
I think everyone deserves someone who wants them 100% and also makes them feel that they’re 100% sure. You’ll lose both Hanni and me.
Meanwhile, Hanni assures Daniel that she told Ilias that the door between them is closed. He tried to be sneaky, she reports, in that he wanted to put all the emotional work on her to say that she wasn’t interested.
The next morning, Ilias tells the cameras that he’s reassessed and now understands that he almost risked his entire relationship with Alina. He promises her that it won’t happen again, and the two appear to be back on the right track, preparing to meet each other’s families next.
The Cast Meets The Families
Hanni is nervous before meeting Daniel’s folks. “They’re the in-laws, after all,” she jokes to the cameras before going on to prepare an elaborate cheese plate for them. “I’m getting anxious they’re going to judge me before really getting to know me,” she says.
Thankfully, Daniel’s mom says she likes Hanni’s “vibrant energy,” and that she can see how much the two of them like one another. That said, when his mother speaks to the cameras, she says she believes they still need a little more time — it’s just too short a period to know whether they’re really ready for marriage.
Then next meeting takes place between Alina and Ilias’ family. Ilias explains how wonderful of an experience the experiment was and that they connected right away. When Alina gets to speak to Ilias’ mother alone, she notes that he’s glowing with her. “I’m honestly just so happy that he’s found you,” she says.
Ilias’ mother continues to gush about their relationship to the cameras:
I think it’s amazing that they’ve found each other and that they’re happy. Ilias says he had the best time of his life in his journey. I’m just really happy for them both, honestly.
Meanwhile, things seems a bit stiff between Jen and Marcel. It’s clear that things are still a little awkward and lacking in real life. I especially felt for Jen, who’s at a loss about how to connect with her partner, saying that she misses him even when they’re in the same room because he isn’t the same person he was in the pods.
When Sally meets Medina’s family, she focuses on winning his mother over, as he’s her only son and she knows how important he must be to her. She’s so nervous that she can barely eat lunch, and she’s devastated when Medina’s mother emphasizes that it’s “too soon” for them to be getting married. Only time will tell if her approval of their union will come later on.
After the family introductions, the cast moves on to go suit and wedding dress shopping should they move on to the big day. When Hanni starts to look through the dresses, she has a bit of a hiccup. It’s finally hit her that she might be getting married, and though she’s confident in her relationship with Daniel, the idea of going through with the ceremony overwhelms her. Once she tries on a sleeveless gown and sheds some happy tears, though, she seems to swing back the other way, feeling ready.
Sally experiences a similar moment when she tries on a dress. The first style doesn’t suit her at all, and it seems to set her into a tailspin about whether she can see herself as a bride at all. The second one is a little better, a nicer fit on her frame, but she still appears uneasy. “At least I should feel perfect when I wear it,” she says. “I just need to keep looking.” Though she doesn’t have any luck that day, she tells the cameras she’s confident she can still find the right style before her big day.
Next up is Alina, who tries on a dress with sheer long sleeves. The entire group seems to agree that it suits her, and she pretty quickly feels like she’s found the dress for her big day. After Alina, it’s Jen’s turn, who says that she needs to take the day to really assess whether she’s ready for her wedding. Especially considering that things are still feeling a little cold between her and Marcel at points, she has a lot of processing to do.
When Jen tries on a dress, she says she’s “missing the feeling” of knowing that it’s the perfect gown for her. Standing in front of the mirror, she begins to cry, and her mom rushes to her aid. She decides to get out of the dress and back into her regular clothes, noting that what she needs in that moment is to sit and really think about what she wants as the next step in her life. As the rest of the women in the cast watch on in concern, Jen walks off with her mother, still wiping the tears from her eyes as we end the episode.
